Ceasefire violations adding to uncertainty in Jammu & Kashmir

In Jammu & Kashmir, the ceasefire violations and various infiltration attempts by terrorists along Line of Control in Kashmir are adding to the uncertainty in Jammu & Kashmir particularly Kashmir region. The political spectrum on either side is favouring meaningful and sustained dialogue between India and Pakistan for resolution of contentious issues.

This year around 40 militants were killed till now in various operations across Kashmir region. Army sources said five militants were apprehended. They added that around 10 infiltration bids were made along Line of Control while as over 13 ceasefire violations were committed by Pakistan this year. The India Pakistan November 2003 ceasefire agreement endorsing cessation of hostilities along International Border, the Line of Control and the Actual Ground Position Line in Jammu and Kashmir, was a landmark historical agreement as it helped in making possible the cross LoC trade and travel. Political divides in Jammu & Kashmir are in favour of better Indo Pak relations which they perceive would cast positive impact on the ground in the State. However, both separatists and almost all mainstream political parties favour resolution of all issues related to the Jammu & Kashmir through fair dialogue process.
