Ceasefire agreement with NDFB extents for 6 months

The ceasefire agreement with the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, NDFB has been extended for six months. According to a Home Ministry statement, this will be valid till 30th June this year now. The agreement was signed between Union Home Ministry, Government of Assam and NDFB in May 2005. It was revised in January 2009 after the involvement of some cadres of the Front in serial blasts in Assam. NDFB is a militant outfit active in lower Assam, particularly in Bodo dominated area, demanding sovereignty of Bodo area in Assam. A Joint Monitoring Group had already been constituted to review the implementation of Agreed Ground Rules. The Tripartite talks on the demands of NDFB are also continuing. The last tripartite meeting with the outfit was held on in December last year to finalize Memorandum of Settlement.
