The Cabinet Committee on Security met in New Delhi this morning to take stock of the situation in the backdrop of growing concern over the security and safety of Indian sailors held hostage by Somali pirates. The meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The Foreign Secretary Mrs. Nirupama Rao told reporters outside parliament that the External Affairs Minister will make a statement on the issue in Parliament. Government says it is making all out efforts to seek the safe release of 53 sailors still held hostage by Somali Pirates. Ministry of External Affairs said that Indian Ambassador in Cairo and Consular General in Dubai are in touch with other countries to help in holding talks with the ship owners and their companies. In a related development, families of some people who have been held hostage last evening met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh seeking his intervention to secure the release of the sailors. They also met the Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs. Miera Kumar and leader of the opposition Sushama Swaraj.
