The Cabinet Committee on Security, CCS, is likely to meet in New Delhi today to discuss the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and consider the demand made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for the partial withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, AFSPA, from some parts of the state. Defence Minister A.K. Antony said that continuing tension in the Kashmir valley is a cause of concern to all and the CCS will discuss the situation in the valley seriously. He was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Thiruvananthapuram yesterday. Mr. Antony also denied any difference of opinion in the Union Cabinet on Kashmir issue. He said there may be various points of view on the AFSPA but ultimately the government's decision is final. Meanwhile, the main opposition BJP has warned against any move to dilute the AFSPA. Party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said that any dilution of the AFSPA is not acceptable to the BJP as the move will demoralize the Armed forces in the valley.
