CCPA recommends ending Budget Session by March 25

The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs has recommended ending the entire Budget Session by March 25th because of elections to assemblies in five states. The original date was April 21st. The decision to curtail the session was taken at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today. The recommendation will now be presented to the Business Advisory Committee of Parliament.Parliament sources said, the entire financial business of the Government will be completed by March 25th.As per the original schedule, the first phase of the Budget Session was to end on March 16th. The second phase was planned to be held between April four and April 21st.The Election Commission announced polls in five states — Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala — from April four to May 10th. The counting of votes in all the three states will be held on May 13th. Government sources said there was a proposal to hold a special session of Parliament beginning late May.
