CCPA issues notices to Ola, Uber for unfair trade practices & violation of consumer rights

<span style="color: #222222;">The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to the two online ride hailing platforms- Ola and Uber for unfair trade practices and violation of consumer rights. <br />''<br />''The Authority in its notices has raised various issues including lack of proper consumer grievance redressal mechanism, deficiency in service, unreasonable levy of cancellation charges and fairness of algorithm used to charge fares.<br />''<br />'' As per the data from the National Consumer Helpline, a total of two thousand 482 grievances were registered by consumers against Ola and 770 against Uber during the period from 1st of April 2021 to 1st of May 2022.<br />''<br />'' Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in a statement said that last week, a meeting was held with representatives of Ola, Uber, Rapido, Meru Cabs and Jugnoo in this regard. These companies were directed to become convergence partner in the National Consumer Helpline, to enable better grievance redressal for consumers and also compliance with Consumer Protection Act, 2019 and E-commerce Rules.<br />''<br />''CCPA also issued Safety Notices to alert and caution consumers against buying goods without valid ISI Mark and violate compulsory BIS standards.</span><br />
