Competition Commission of India, CCI, has decided to conduct a study on Market Structures for Agricultural Commodities. The aim is to identify supply side dynamics for select agricultural commodities including onion.Talking to reporters on the day of his retirement, the out going chairman of Commission Dhanendra Kumar said the study will look into structure, degree and nature of market competition at each stage of the supply chain of these commodities.The study will also focus on the functioning of mandis, process of price discovery and identification of competition and efficiency bottlenecks.Mr. Kumar said that the prices of agricultural commodities are more volatile than those of the non-farm commodities due to variety of reasons including unstable agriculture production.
