CCI imposes Rs 2.83 cr penalty on Super Cassettes Industries Ltd

Competition Commission of India, CCI has imposed a penalty of two crore and 83 lakh rupees on Super Cassettes Industries Limited for abusing dominant position. An official release said that an order to this effect was passed today against the company on the basis of information filed by HT Media Limited. The Commission found the company to be in dominant position in the relevant market of licensing of Bollywood music to private FM radio stations for broadcast in India. It held the company in contravention of the provisions of the Competition Act, for imposing unfair conditions of Minimum Commitment Charges, MCC upon the private FM Stations in its existing agreements. Apart from issuing a cease and desist order, CCI directed the company to modify the unfair condition of MCC imposed on private FM Stations in the agreements within 3 months.
