CCEA approves creation of national clean energy fund to address environmental concerns

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA, has approved constitution of a National Clean Energy Fund in the Public Account of India. The fund will be used for funding research and innovative projects in clean energy technology. An inter-ministerial group has been constituted to approve the scheme and projects for financing under the fund. The CCEA has also referred the Cairn-Vedanta deal on energy to a Group of Ministers, GoM. Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy said after the meeting in New Delhi that the GoM will be headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. The Union Cabinet has approved the Comprehensive Mission Document of the National Water Mission. The Water Mission aims at conservation of water, minimizing wastage and ensuring its equitable distribution both across and within States through integrated water resources development and management. The Cabinet also approved the opening of a Consulate General in Perth, which will benefit the growing Indian community in Western Australia.
