CBSE mulls joint medical, engineering exam

<br/>The Centre has mooted a proposal to merge of the CBSE conducted Common Pre-Medical Test and the All India Engineering Entrance Exam . This will help reduce stress on students and provide them level-playing field. <br/> <br/>This was disclosed by HRD Minister Kapil Sibal at the end of State Education Ministers Conference in New Delhi on Friday. He said the proposal was by and large hailed by the states and a final decision will be taken only after all stakeholders are taken on board. <br/><br/>He said the marks of different boards could be equalised through a mathematical formula. <br/>The minister asserted that states gave their nod to set up National Education Finance Corporation to provide education loans at cheaper interest rates to give impetus to higher education in the country. <br/>Students whose parental income is up to Rs 4.5 lakh annually will get loans at 4 per cent interest. Sibal said the agenda of his ministry for the next year is to give a child-centric vision to education. <br/><br/>Giving details of other issues discussed in the meeting, the minister said that the Government proposed to establish the national institute of assessment and evaluation to help school boards in assessment and evaluation and adapt the modern practices in this area. <br/>AIR correspondent reports that there was difference of opinion among the states on the enhancement of age of superannuation of teachers in the higher education in the pay revision package and the Human Resource Development Minister assured them that their feelings will be conveyed at the appropriate levels. <br/><br/>However, the states have been asked to send their proposals under 11th Plan Schemes with the decisions taken by the national development council. <br/>
