CBRN training centre to come up in Panipat

The government has given its nod to the DRDO for setting up a national centre to train armed forces and para-military personnel as 'first responders' in Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear, CBRN emergencies.
DRDO's Chief Controller W Selvamurthy said this in New Delhi on Thursday while addressing a conference on CBRN disaster management and security.

He said besides preparing a pool of trained manpower that will be technologically equipped to deal with CBRN situation, this centre will also act as Emergency Response Centre ERC to co-ordinate action during such emergencies.

The first such centre, which will come up in Panipat in Haryana, shall function under the overall supervision of Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences, a DRDO laboratory.

Besides training military, para-military, police and civilian population, this Centre will also create awareness on CBRN emergencies.
