CBI team visits violence hit Kokrajhar in Assam today

In Assam, a CBI team headed by a Special Director today visited violence hit Kokrajhar as part of their investigation. Official sources said that the investigative agency will inquire into seven cases initially, as finalised by the Union Home Ministry. Though Assam government had referred 309 cases to the CBI, the rest will be scrutinised at later stages. The team went to MAAGURGURI village in Kokrajhar where unidentified miscreants killed three people on 20th July.

Meanwhile, the situation is improving in the violence marred areas and no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere during the last 72 hours. District administration has relaxed day curfew in Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde are likely to visit Kokrajhar and Dhubri on Monday. A four member team of National Human Rights Commission yesterday held discussions with the senior officials of the state government and expressed satisfaction over the facilities being provided to inmates in the relief camps. The team however asked for deployment of more doctors in violence hit districts. A team of Asom Gana Parishad also visited relief camps in Kokrajhar to take stock of the situation.
