The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has now shifted its focus on benami flat owners in the Adarsh Housing Society case by trying to unearth details of those who used a proxy to get a flat in the controversial Housing Society in Mumbai.
The CBI has been probing benami transactions relating to 24 of the 103 flats in Adarsh Society after seeking permission from Bombay High Court to continue with its investigations.
According to sources, documents, including furnished false affidavits about income, domicile and ownership are being checked by the CBI to ascertain the original owners of benami flats in the society.
The CBI is also expected to file a separate charge sheet in the benami flats case soon.
The CBI in its chargesheet had alleged that some key members own benami flats in the 31-storey tower situated in the upscale Colaba area in South Mumbai.
In its charge sheet, the CBI has revealed, that funds from a Pune based builder were utilized for purchasing some flats, besides some politicians and promoters also own benami flats in the society.
The CBI had filed over a 10, 000 pages charge-sheet on 4th July, 2012 against 13 accused in the case. A special CBI court in Mumbai had adjourned the hearing on the central agency's charge sheet till 6th August.
