As part of the investigations in the Adarsh Society Housing Scam, the CBI today raided the residence of former Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak in Mumbai. A senior CBI official said that the searches began at around 7 a.m. and they have raided a total of six locations, three in Mumbai, two in Delhi, and one in Pune. CBI Western Region Director R.R. Singh said that Phatak’s Nariman Point residence was also raided in the search operation. Mr. Phatak’s son Kanishka is among the 103 members who owned an apartment in Adarsh Society in Mumbai’s Colaba area. The CBI in its FIR said that he, during his tenure as Brihanmumbai Municiapl corporation commissioner, had approved the height of the building to be increased from 97 metres to 107 metres. Apart from Mr. Pathak, the FIR includes former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, retired army officials and bureaucrats, all of whom have been charged with conspiracy and misuse of official powers.
