CBI raids Raja residences at Delhi, Chennai & Perambalur

The CBI today raided the residences of former Telecom Minister, Mr. A. Raja, his close associates and officials of Telecom Ministry. The raids were carried out in Delhi, Chennai and Perambalur, the home town of Mr. Raja. CBI sleuths also carried out searches in the residences Mr. R.K. Chandolia, Personal Secretary of Mr. Raja and three other Telecom officials in Delhi. AIR Chennai Correspondent reports that CBI teams also raided offices of Mr. Sadiq Pasha, a real estate promoter in Chennai and Perambalur. After completing the searches which began at seven this morning, Mr. Pasha was taken for further questioning. Bank accounts of Mr. Pasha are also being verified. Meanwhile, the Congress has rejected the Opposition's allegation that the raids are just an eye-wash. Party spokesman, Mr. Manish Tewari told reporters outside Parliament that Congress has always held that law should take its own course. The BJP leader Mr. Venkaiah Naidu said that the CBI raids have come come too late. The CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said that the CBI raids reinforces the need for a JPC to look into the alleged irregularities. Welcoming the raids in connection with 2G spectrum scam the AIADMK leader Dr. V. Maitreyan said that action should be taken against A. Raja.The Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanswamy refrained from making any comment on the raids. He said the 2G Spectrum case is pending in court and the CBI, which is an independent agency, is investigating the issue.
