CBI raids ex-OOA secretary's residence, OOA office over land grab allegations

An 8-member CBI team on Friday conducted raids at four places including Odisha Olympic Association office at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack and on residence of former Secretary of the Association, Ashirbad Behera over land grab allegations. The raids were carried out on the directions of Supreme Court to probe into land grab allegation. Sources said many important documents were seized during the raids.

Notably, the Supreme Court had on April 3 ordered a CBI inquiry into the Barabati Stadium land encroachment case following Accountant General's report on financial transaction of Barabati Palace and allotment of shops adjacent to the stadium.

It may be mentioned here that the Odisha Olympic Association got 22 acres of government land on lease for the construction of Barabati Stadium in 1949. Later it had taken possession of two-acre government land used for parking purpose and sub-leased it over to a private company which had built Barabati Palace and 23 shops on the land.
