The CBI on Monday continued with its raids in the Adarsh Society scam case. The raids were conducted at Adarsh society office in Mumbai and they started at 6 am. The CBI on Monday started with searches at the residences and other premises of some of the people named in the FIR relating to the scam. The searches were conducted in cities across the country including Patna, Nagpur, Pune and Mumbai, primarily at the properties of promoter of the society R C Thakur, retired Major General M M Wanchoo, former Congress MLC Kanhaiya Lal Gidwani, suspended information commissioner Ramanand Tiwari and former Deputy Secretary P V Deshmukh. Files, laptops, computer hard disks and incriminating documents were seized during the raids, according to CBI sources. The society has been accused of violating environmental norms and of getting the land on the promise that houses would be built for war widows and veterans. However, most of the houses were allotted to politicians, bureaucrats and Army and Navy officers.
