CBI raids A Raja's Delhi & Chennai residences

The CBI on Wednesday carried out searches at the residences of former Telecom Minister A Raja in Delhi and Chennai. The CBI sleuths also conducted raids at the premises of four other Telecom officials, including his personal secretary R K Chandolia, in connection with the alleged multi crore 2G spectrum scam.A. Raja had resigned last month in the wake of the CAG's report on 2 G spectrum allocation. The CAG report had said, the rates at which the 2G spectrum was allotted resulted in a possible loss to the exchequer to the tune of Rs. 1.76 lakh crore.AIR Chennai correspondent reports, the Investigating agencies also raided the residences of close relatives of former Union Telecom Minister Mr. A.Raja. Official sources said one place in Chennai and two other residences in Mr.Raja's home town Perambalur were raided by sleuths of the agencies. Raids that began at 7. 00 am this morning and are continuing. The Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanswamy refrained from making any comment on the raids. He said the case is pending in court and the CBI, which is an independent agency, is investigating it. Meanwhile the BJP has claimed that CBI raids on the residences of former Telecom Minister A Raja prove that probe agencies believe he had a role in the controversial spectrum allocation.
