CBI quizzes Kalmadi

The Chairman of the Organising Committee for Common Wealth Games Suresh Kalmadi was questioned by the CBI for over eight hours today in connection with the alleged financial irregularities in the preparations for the Delhi games. The questioning of Kalmadi follows the raids conducted on his office and Delhi and Pune homes on the 24th of last month. A number of documents, laptops and computer discs were seized in the raids which came two months after the mega event. The CBI is probing irregularities in the award of contracts during the Queen's Baton Relay ceremony in London in October 2009. It is also probing the awarding of 107 crore rupee contracts for procuring timing equipment for the athletic event of the Games. The key aids of Kalmadi in the Organising Committee – Lalit Bhanot and Manoj Bhore have already been questioned by the CBI.
