CBI questions suspended IAS officers in Adarsh scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation probing the multi-crore Adarsh Society Housing Scam in Mumbai today called suspended IAS officers Jairaj Phatak and former bureaucrat Ramanand Tiwari for questioning for their alleged role in the scam. CBI sources informed AIR that both Phatak and Tiwari were summoned to the CBI office in Mumbai for interrogation.

Phatak, who was then the municipal commissioner, is alleged to have allowed the height of the building to be raised beyond 100 metres without the approval of the High-Rise Committee of the municipal body. Ramanand Tiwari was the principal secretary in the Urban Developmet ministry when various approvals for the Adarsh Socity were given. The CBI investigating the multi crore housing scam in Mumbai’s posh Colaba locality has so far arrested seven persons including several bureaucrats and senior army officers.
