CBI produces Raja before Special CBI Judge on expiry of his 5-day custody

CBI today produced former Telecom Minister A Raja before Special CBI Judge O P Saini on expiry of his 5-day custody today. Police remand for A Raja, former Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura and Raja's former Personal Secretary R K Chandolia comes to an end today. CBI sources said that the investigating agency will seek extension of remand for the trio. They have been arrested after repeated questioning for allegedly causing a loss of 22,000 crore rupees to the exchequer in the spectrum allocation. Seeking their custody, CBI counsel Akhilesh argued that Raja had caused a loss of 22,000 crore rupees to the public exchequer by favouring some telecom firms in award of the 2G spectrum licences. CBI in its argument said due to Raja, at least two telecom firms, including Swan Telecom and Unitech, were benefited to the tune of several hundred crores of rupees by selling their stakes to various other global firms shortly after getting licences.
