CBI moves HC seeking cancellation of bail to Maran

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has moved the Madras High Court seeking to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to former Union Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran in the multi-crore illegal BSNL Telephone exchange case. The petition, filed last evening, accused Mr Maran of deliberately suppressing information. CBI appealed to the court to cancel the bail so that he could be taken into custody for questioning in the case.

The CBI submitted that the accused Maran, despite sustained examination during his presence before the Investigation Officer, did not intentionally furnish any relevant information, which are in his exclusive knowledge. It also accused Mr Maran of being evasive and giving contradictory replies, besides deliberately hiding the facts to save himself and others, it added. The petition is expected to come for hearing next week.
