In Uttar Pradesh a special CBI court at Ghaziabad has convicted three persons in the high profile murder case of Meerut University lecturer Kavita Rani nearly five years ago. Judge of the court A K Singh has also ordered that former state government minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Mairajuddin Ahmed should be tried for perjury. Quantum of punishment for convicts Ravinder, Sultan Singh and Yogesh will be pronounced on Friday.AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that Kavita Rani, an ad-hoc lecturer of the university was suspected to have been murdered on October 23, 2006 when she was returning to the university from her home in Bulandshahr district. Her body could not be recovered. The premium investigative agency had registered a case on January 2007 on the request of the state government. One of the accused Ravinder Pradhan was found dead in the jail during the course of trial on May 2008.
