CBI conducting searches at places related to CWG officials

CBI is conducting searches at 11 places including at the residences of Secretary General of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Lalit Bhanot and OC Director General V K Verma in connection with alleged irregularities in the 107 crore rupees scoring update system project. The raids come close on the heels of the Agency arresting sacked treasurer of CWG OC M Jayachandran in connection with the alleged bungling in the Queen's Baton Relay in London. Jayachandran was arrested after several rounds of questioning by the investigating agency. Earlier, the CBI arrested two other sacked OC officials T S Darbari and Sanjay Mahendroo under various cases. AIR correspondent reports that several Commonwealth Games related contracts worth crores of rupees are being scrutinised by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the Income Tax Department for alleged financial bungling.
