CBI books three senior I-T officers in corruption case

The CBI has booked three senior officers of the Income Tax department in connection with alleged entries of payments made to them in a diary recovered during IT raids at a business group's premises six years ago. <br/><br/>The agency has registered an FIR against Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in Guntur, Sunil Kumar Ojha, Income Tax Commissioner in Thane, Subhash Chandra and Income Tax Commissioner in Ahmedabad, Manas Shankar Ray.<br/><br/>Vadodara-based Sterling Biotech Ltd has also been named as an accused in the FIR which contains charges of criminal conspiracy and abuse of official position.<br/><br/>On 28th of June, 2011, the IT department had conducted search and seizures at 25 premises of Sterling Biotech, during which a diary containing hand-written records of financial transactions was found.<br/><br/>The FIR alleged, total cash payments shown in the diary against the name of Ojha were 98.99 lakh rupees, of which interest payment was shown as 97.40 lakh rupees. <br/><br/>It said, the diary also showed cash payments of 7 lakh rupees against the name of Subhash Chandra. The FIR said, a cash payment of 80 lakh rupees was shown against the name Ray.
