CBI begins on spot probe into violence hit Assam districts

In Assam, a CBI team investigating the cause of the violence in the three violence affected districts of Kokrajhar, Dhubri and Chirang on Friday began their on the spot investigation after discussions with the district officials.

During their day long visit to Kokrajhar on Friday, they met people at five places to know their points of view .

The team headed by Special Director yesterday held discussions with the top government functionaries in Guwahati.

Official sources said the team will also look into the conspiracy angle behind the violence.

They have taken up seven cases for investigation.

AIR Correspondent reports from with situation gradually limping back to normalcy, day curfew has been lifted from all the violence affected areas.

However, strict vigil is being maintained in sensitive areas. So far, over one lakh 40 thousand people have gone back to their homes.

Another three lakh 53 thousand people are taking shelter in 242 relief camps.

The State Government is making arrangements to send more doctors as a number of people are reported sick in these camps.

Sixteen more doctors were sent on Friday to treat the ailing people.

The National Human Rights Commission had also asked the State Government to provide necessary medical facilities to the people in the camps. The team visited the relief camps to know the problems being faced by them.

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde are likely to visit Kokrajhar and Dhubri on Monday.
