The CBI has arrested YSR Congress Chief Jaganmohan Reddy in a disproportionate assets case. He was arrested on Sunday evening in Hyderabad after three days of questioning by the investigating agency.
CBI officials said Jagan was arrested for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The CBI has charged him of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and falsification of accounts. He will be produced before a court on Monday.
His mother, Y S Vijaya and supporters staged a dharna shortly after he was taken into CBI custody.
Anticipating an emotional outpouring by his supporters, Jagan has asked his supporters to maintain peace and remain calm at all costs.
A high alert has been sounded across Andhra Pradesh to avert possible breakdown of law and order. Heavy police deployment is in place in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Kadapa and major places in the state.
Hyderabad police have clamped prohibitory orders under Sec.144 CrPC in the city.
