CBI arrests former Telecom Minister Raja

Former Telecom Minister A Raja was on Wednesday arrested in the 2G Spectrum allocation case. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, CBI chief spokesperson, Mr Anurag said along with Raja former Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura and Raja's Personal Secretary R K Chandolia have also been arrested. AIR correspondent quoting CBI sources reports, all the three were called to the CBI headquarters this morning for questioning. Mr Anurag said the trio were arrested based on facts disclosed so far during the investigation regarding their role in allocation of spectrum to certain companies. Mr. Anurag said the three were arrested for criminal conspiracy and under the Prevention of Corruption Act. AIR correspondent reports Raja will be produced in the court on Thursday.The arrest of 47-year-old Raja of DMK, a crucial ally of the Congress at the Centre, comes almost two months after his resignation as minister. Raja was forced to resign after embarrassing details of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India's report of a presumptive loss of over 1 lakh 76 thousand crore rupees to the exchequer in the allocation of 2G Spectrum issue came to light. The arrest will have no impact on the political alliance between the two parties in the coming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections as both the parties pledge to continue the tie-up.
