CBI arrests Central Railway official for taking bribe

The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI has arrested a Divisional Engineer, Central Railway, Mumbai for accepting a bribe of 20 thousand rupees. A case was registered on a complaint under sections of IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act substantive offences. <br/><br/>It was alleged that a Divisional Engineer and a Draughtsman demanded an illegal gratification of 40 thousand rupees for issuance of No Objection Certificate, NOC with regard to land. <br/><br/>Later on, the Divisional Engineer agreed to accept 20 thousand as initial payment and the remaining amount at the time of issuance of NOC. The Draughtsman also demanded a bribe for visiting the site.<br/><br/> CBI laid a trap and caught the Divisional Engineer red handed while accepting the bribe. Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of deposit receipts showing investment of over one crore rupees, gold jewellery of 1 kilo and documents relating to purchase of 3 flats and a piece of land and locker key. <br/><br/>The arrested accused was produced before the court at Mumbai and has been remanded to Police Custody.
