The CBI today arrested Gujarat Minister Amit Shah in Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case after he appeared before the agency for questioning in Gandhinagar. 46-year-old senior BJP leader- Shah was sent to Sabarmati Jail-where CBI can interrogate him at any time. He is likely to file his bail application tomorrow through his lawyer. Shah earlier made a dramatic appearance before the media at the BJP state headquarters in Ahmedabad after having evaded CBI summons in the case since Thursday. Later he drove to the agency's office accompanied by BJP state office-bearers. Sources in the CBI said, Shah was whisked in a car from the CBI office to the residence of Judicial Magistrate A Y Dave by the agency officials, as courts were closed today. Shah has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the court. CBI did not ask for his remand. Briefing the media persons at BJP State Headquarters, Amit Shah alleged that summons and charge sheet by the CBI are a conspiracy and he will expose the people behind it. He described the charges against him as false, fabricated and politically motivated. Shah has been charged by CBI for kidnapping and murder of alleged gangster Soharabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kausar Bi in 2005.
