CBI arrests 4 Income Tax Officers & businessman in on-going investigation of bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, has arrested four Income Tax Officers posted at various places in Jharkhand and a businessman of Kolkata in an on-going investigation of a bribery case. <br/><br/>The agency had registered a case on 10th of last month against Principal Commissioner and Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, two Income Tax Officers posted at Ranchi, six private persons and companies for criminal conspiracy, illegal gratification and criminal misconduct. <br/> <br/>It is alleged that the Principal Commissioner had entered into a criminal conspiracy with other accused officers and five Kolkata based businessmen and a Chartered Accountant for getting Income Tax assessment files transferred for providing undue favour in lieu of huge bribe. <br/><br/>Searches were conducted at the premises of accused persons at eighteen locations at Kolkata and five at Ranchi. A total cash of nearly 3.7 crore rupees, over 6 kilo gold and some incriminating documents were recovered from the premises of ther Principal Commissioner. He was arrested in July this year and is in judicial custody.<br/><br/>All the arrested accused were produced today in the Court of Special Judge, Ranchi and remanded to Judicial Custody.
