CBEC sets up pavilion at IITF to popularize VCES

The Central Board of Excise and Customs has set up a Pavilion in the ongoing India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan in Delhi to popularise and publicise Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme, VCES. The VCES was announced by Finance Minister P Chidambaram in his Budget speech. AIR correspondent reports, a service tax help desk has been set up at the pavilion to accept declarations under the scheme and also to answer queries and clarifications from the assesses related to the scheme. The objective of the scheme is to encourage disclosure of tax dues and compliance of service tax law by the persons who have not paid service tax dues for the period from October, 2007 to December, 2012. Various rounds of quiz contents with questions on the VCES are being held at the pavilion. Kids are presented with certificates along with gifts for participating in the quiz competitions. Since IITF is one of the largest trade fair in the world, setting up a pavilion has provided a great platform to the CBEC to publicise the scheme.
