Central Board of Direct Taxes, CBDT has issued pending refunds of more than two lakh 62 thousand crore rupees in the last financial year. CBDT has informed that the refund was issued to more than two crore 38 lakh taxpayers. It also informed that the refund amounts have registered an increase of more than 42 per cent in comparison to financial year 2019-20. Total refunds of one lakh 83 thousand crore rupees have been issued by CBDT during the financial year 2019-20.
 
CBDT said that Covid-19 pandemic has posed several challenges and the government has come out with several initiatives to mitigate the economic hardship caused to the people. It said the government has issued pending income tax refunds expeditiously to provide immediate relief to the taxpayers.
