CB Series: Sri Lanka beat India by 51 runs

Sri Lanka put fine display of bowling and batting to register a convincing 51 run victory over India in the 8th ODI of the tri-series at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday. India struggled in their run chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Pacer Farveez Maharoof gave Sri Lanka a crucial break-through as he removed Suresh Raina to dent Indian run chase. Raina with his individual score of 32, added valuable 92 runs with his partner for the 4th wicket, to revive India. Virendra Sehwag who missed the previous two games, was stand-in captain today in place of Mahinder Singh Dhoni who was handed out one match ban for slow-over rate. Virat Kohli slammed 20th ODI fifty to revive the Indian run chase. Sri Lankan bowlers dismissed India's 3 senior batsmen, Virendra Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir early.The scores: Sri Lanka 289 for 6; India 238 -in 45.1 overs.With today's win, Sri Lanka is now at par with India on 10 points, that too with one less game. Besides, they boast of a much better run-rate. As of now, Australia are sitting pretty with 14 points from 5 matches.India will play two more league matches in the tri-series, one against Australia in Sydney on Sunday and the second against Sri Lanka on Tuesday next.
