Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shetter has said that the state will file its review petition and objections in response to Tamil Nadu’s petition on sharing of Cauvery river water in Supreme Court . Speaking to media persons, he said, the state will request the apex court to take up the hearing today itself, as the release of 9000 cusecs of cauvery water everyday is depleting its reservoirs. He called upon farmers of Cauvery belt to maintain peace and assured them that State will do everything to safeguard its interests. Chief Minister has called a meeting of officials today evening to discuss issues that could be brought to the notice of Mr.D.V.Singh, the Secretary of Union Water Resources ministry, who is scheduled to visit the state tomorrow as head of Central Study team. Meanwhile, Mandya farmers have begun their hunger strike along with the Chairman of Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi, G Madegowda in protest against release of water. The film chamber, advocates association and pro-Kannada organisations have announced their support to the Karnataka Bandh called on Saturday. Former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa too has come out in support of farmers and is planning to hold a protest in Bangalore tomorrow.
