Cauvery dispute: All-party meet in K’taka to discuss SC order

Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar is holding a floor leaders meeting in Bangalore today to discuss Supreme Court verdict to release 9000 cusecs of Cauvery water everyday to neighbouring Tamil Nadu. The floor leaders are also to discuss the impact of court order on the state. Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Siddaramaiah has felt that the state had failed to represent its cause properly in the Supreme Court.

Karnataka has already filed a plea before the Cauvery River Authority seeking review of its order in this regard.

Meanwhile in Mandya district, the agitating farmers and Kannada protagonist organisations took to the streets in protest against the apex court order. Cauvery Hitarakshana Samithi disrupted traffic and rail services in Mandya, Maddur and Srirangapatna towns. The Samithi president G Madegowda has said farmers will lay siege to K.R.S reservoir and would not allow water release. In Bangalore, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike' and several other organisations are holding protests against release of water today.
