Markets remain in red; lose 213 pts to close at 16,786

Falling for the second straight day, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange declined 213 points, or 1.3 percent, to 16,786, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange lost 66 points, or 1.3 percent, to 4,989. Stocks markets in Japan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong and South Korea ended mixed.

Gold prices surge; touch Rs. 17,400/10 gm

Gold rose 30 rupees, to a new record high of 17,400 rupees per ten grams at Delhi's bullion market, today. Silver ready remained steady at 28,600 rupees per kilo. Gold in international markets also surged to an all-time high of over 1,153 dollars an ounce.
