BSE Sensex trading 42 points down in afternoon trade

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex that opened 88 points up today, traded 42 points down at 19503 in afternoon trade. Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange Nifty was trading 23 points down at 5843 points.

Rupee gains 8 paise against US dollar

The Indian rupee strengthened by 8 paise to Rs 44.43 against the US dollar in early trade. The rupee had depreciated by 3 paise to close at Rs 44.51 against the US dollar in the previous session.
