Catalonia's Parliament has proposed former leader Carles Puigdemont as a candidate for the post of the President. <br/><br/>Roger Torrent, the speaker of the newly elected parliament, said Puigdemont has been nominated as a candidate to govern the region again. Puigdemont remains in exile in Belgium as he faces rebellion charges for his role in the independence movement. <br/><br/>He was dismissed by Spain's central government after the region unilaterally declared independence. The regional parliament was also dissolved last year following the development in the region. <br/><br/>However, the election last month saw pro-independence forces win a majority in parliament. But the central government in Madrid is strongly opposed to the idea of Puigdemont returning to the post.<br/>
