Caste census would not divide people: Munde

Supporting caste census, Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde said in Mumbai today that it would not divide people but help estimate actual population of OBCs in the country and highlight the plight of the poor. He said such an exercise was undertaken last in 1931 and after that there has been no statistical support to verify the estimated 52 per cent OBC population.

Munde said in 2007, when the Supreme Court asked for government's view on population of OBCs during the 27 per cent reservation in IITs, the government admitted it did not have authentic figures in absence of OBC census.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai Mr. Gopinath Munde also expressed confidence that a BJP-led government will be in place in Jharkhand within a week.
