In Response to an Election Commission’s directive to file a First Information Report (FIR) against those MLAs who were caught on camera allegedly demanding prices for their votes in the recently held Rajya Sabha polls, the state government is set to lodge FIRs against them. Jharkhand’s Chief Secretary A K Singh told AIR Correspondent that the state Government would abide by the Election Commission directives. Chief Secretary has received the EC’s letter on Tuesday directing him to invoke Section 171-B of the IPC and Sections 8 and 9 of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the Jharkhand MLAs. Under the Prevention of Corruption Act, if the offence is proved, the guilty could be punished with imprisonment of up to five years and fine.
