<br/>The US Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the owner and management of an apartment complex at Renton in Washington State for racial discrimination against Indians.<br/><br/>The lawsuit, filed in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington, has sought monetary damages and an order barring further discrimination. The suit alleges that the defendants steered Indian tenants away from one of the five buildings at Summerhill, treated tenants from India less favourably than other tenants and discouraged African-Americans, Hispanics and families with children from living at Summerhill.<br/><br/>Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division Thomas E Perez said that Equal access to housing in the United States is a fundamental right, and discrimination in housing will not be tolerated.<br/><br/>New Delhi has maintained that talks with Islamabad have not collapsed. In an interview to a TV channel on Friday, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said though there were differences in perceptions but the gap was not unbridgeable. Rao said the tone and tenor of Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi's remarks could have been better. <br/><br/>Earlier, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna had rejected Pakistan’s contention that New Delhi was not prepared to discuss all issues. He asserted that all core and burning problems were deliberated upon, with the aim of reducing trust deficit. Talking to newspersons at Delhi Airport after his return from three-day Pakistan visit, Krishna rebuffed his Pakistan counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi for comparing Home Secretary G K Pillai with JuD chief and terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed.<br/>Hours after Qureshi accused the Indian delegation of carrying a limited mandate to discuss issues, Krishna said his mandate was very clear and that there was no ambiguity.<br/>Krishna also apprised the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh of his talks with Mr Qureshi and meetings with Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani.
