Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi released from Mumbai jail

Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi, arrested on charges of mocking Parliament and the National Emblem, was released from Arthur road jail in Mumbai today. He was granted bail by the Bombay High Court yesterday on a personal bond of 5000 rupees. Trivedi had earlier said that he would not apply for bail till sedition charges against him are dropped. The court will take a decision on removal of the sedition charge by 17th of this month.

Earlier yesterday, Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil said that injustice will not be meted out to Kanpur-based cartoonist Aseem Trivedi, who is facing charges of sedition. Trivedi was arrested in Mumbai on Saturday and sent to judicial custody on Monday.
