Former US President Jimmy Carter arrived in Boston with Aijalon Mahli Gomes, who spent seven months in a North Korean prison for illegally crossing into the Communist nation but was released on the leader's request. Gomes, was greeted by his family members, at Logan International Airport. The Carter Center, the former president's Atlanta-based foundation, said in a statement that at the request of Mr. Carter and for humanitarian purposes, Gomes was granted amnesty by the Chairman of the National Defence Commission Kim Jong-Il.Gomes's mother Jacqueline McCarthy thank President Carter for making sure he is home safely. Gomes, who used to teach English in South Korea, crossed into North Korea earlier this year to protest against his friend's arrest but got himself booked for illegally entering into the country.
