Carpet exports from India grows by about 4% yr-on-yr

Carpet exports from India grew by about 4 per cent year-on-year to 93.4 million US dollars in September 2012 owing to rising demand from new markets such as China and Latin America.A data published by the Carpet ExportPromotion Council , CEPC showed that in September last year, Carpet exports stood at 89.9 million US dollars. Among the categories which have registered maximum growth in September are synthetic carpets that grew by 43 per cent, followed by handmade woollen carpets at 29 per cent, handmade silk carpets 20 per cent and handmade woollen tufted carpets 16.49 per cent.The CEPC expects carpet exports to touch 1 billion US dollars in 2012-13 compared to USD 808 million in the last fiscal. The US and European markets account for about 60 per cent of the country's total carpet exports.The carpet exports sector employs 2.5 million people.
