Canada to deport fugitive killer of ‘Bangabandhu’

Canada has decided to deport the fugitive killer of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, ex-lieutenant colonel Noor Chowdhury, one of the two men who shot him dead.Noor Chowdhury faces a death sentence in Bangladesh for his involvement in the murder. Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed said the Canadian government has ordered Noor Chowdhury's deportation rejecting his appeal for asylum. The minister said Canadian police already seized his passport and handed it over to Bangladesh embassy there and kept him under a security vigil as part of the deportation process.Noor Chowdhury is reportedly trying to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada for allowing him to remain in the country. The development comes just a 10 days after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death penalties of 12 convicted ex-army officers for the August 15,1975, assassination of Bangabandhu . While five of them are behind bars, the remaining six of them are absconding while one person has died. The Bangladesh government is making efforts to bring back all the absconding convicts with the help of Interpol.
