Campaigning is picking up in Bihar for the first phase of polls scheduled to be held on Thursday. Our correspondent reports that political parties are now drafting star campaigners in a last ditch effort to woo the voters. 47 seats will go to poll on the 21st of this month in a six-phased elections in Bihar.Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh while addressing an election rally at Narpatganj at Araria district today charged the Bihar Government with failure to implement Centre's special schemes for minorities. He also lamented that poor people are not getting the benefits of other welfare schemes like MNREGA, due to irresponsible attitude of the Nitish Kumar led NDA government. The State was given 1,000 Crore rupees per year since 2004 under the special package.Dr Singh said, for the last 20 years, the voters in Bihar had elected non-Congress governments and they had done very little to improve the socio-economic conditions of the people. He said, voters should also take into account the fact that Bihar still remains backward, while other states have made considerable progress.
