As the 224-seat Karnataka assembly election is approaching fast, campaigns have intensified, with Chief Ministers, Union Ministers, and political stalwarts touring the state, conducting rallies, meetings and road shows. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold road shows and rallies at various places for two days starting tomorrow. At the same time, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi will address public meetings and participate in a roadshow at Dharward and Haliyal in Uttara Kannada tomorrow.
''
''Congress National President Mallikarjuna Kharge will conduct a roadshow and public discussion in Bengaluru this afternoon. The party leader Rahul Gandhi campaigned in Kalburgi and Vijayapura today. Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H D Deve Gowda today started the 11-day-long campaign for his party candidates. During this period, he will attend rallies, public meetings and roadshows at 42 places. Aam Admi Party, which has filed candidates in 209 constituencies, is hopeful to open its account in Karnataka this time. AAP Rajya Sabha Member Sanjay Singh has joined the campaign, while Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will address the public meeting and rallies on Sunday. While the Congress is looking to benefit from an anti-incumbency wave, the ruling BJP hopes PM Modi's popularity and development work will help it through.
''
''Meanwhile, among major political parties, Deve Gowda-led JD(S) yesterday launched its Janata Manifesto, where the party claims to restore 4 per cent reservation to Muslims, job reservation to Kannadigas in the private sector, loan waiver for Stree Shakti self-help groups, reviewing of National Pension schemes among others. Though Congress has not yet launched its election manifesto, its leaders have already announced five promises, including two hundred units of free power to all households, and 10 kg of rice free to all members of a BPL family if the party comes to power in Karnataka.
