Campaigning intensifies for assembly elections in Karnataka

<span style="color: #222222;">Campaigning has intensified for assembly elections in Karnataka. Star campaigners of different political parties held rallies and road shows across the state to woo the voters. Voting in the state will take place on 10th of May. Party sources said, Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would virtually address 50 lakh BJP workers of the State on Thursday. Senior BJP leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will join the party's campaign from Belagavi and Bagalkote districts starting tomorrow. </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a two-day tour of Karnataka to hold a series of public meetings, road shows and review meetings with the party leaders. Speaking on the issue of the Karnataka government's decision to scrap the 4 per cent OBC reservation for Muslims, the Home Minister said, the reservation should not be given on the basis of religion.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, while addressing election rallies in Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts, blamed BJP and Karnataka governments for allegedly lying to people about reservations. Campaigning in Mangaluru, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, the party will elect its Chief Ministerial candidate based on the opinions of the elected legislators and high command.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">At a public rally in Terdal on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged people that only the BJP can lead the State towards a New Karnataka. While, the Congress National President Mallikarjuna Kharge, who is campaigning for the party candidates, said in Mangaluru that their elected legislators would decide the Chief Minister once Congress comes to power in Karnataka. The election campaign by various tall leaders in Karnataka has grabbed people's attention, who throng in large numbers to the public rallies and road shows. The participation of cinema stars and other celebrities makes the election campaign interesting. Social media is also reeling out party and candidate views on various issues of public importance. On the other hand, through various Government departments, the Election Commission is reaching out to the voters to educate them about their rights and not to fall for any inducements.</span><br />
