For the first time, campaigning in the poll bound Punjab has gone hi-tech. Major political parties and various candidates are using social networking sites and other online sources to woo net savy voters through slogans, ad campaigns, news as well as videos and cartoons. Tunes of famous songs are also being used by candidates by weaving lyrics in favour of their political parties around it. All this material has either been put up on Facebook or on Youtube and is getting good response from potential online voters, especially urban youth.AIR Jalandhar Correspondent reports that specially hired professional teams of cyber warriors are managing the online campaigning for political parties including Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and People’s Party of Punjab whereas, some of the BJP candidates are managing themselves.Promotional messages to party members are also being sent to keep them posted on party activities. Whether or not the online campaigning would play an imporatnat role in Punjab elections but at the moment, it is a good source of info-tainment for net-savy people.
